What is the blue economy and how do we contribute at Gymir and Charters?
The blue economy is an economic model that promotes the sustainable use of marine and ocean resources. It goes beyond simple exploitation; it seeks to protect marine ecosystems, generate quality employment, and foster responsible local development. It is a form of growth that respects the sea and values it as a source of life, knowledge, and future.
At Gymir and Charters, we don’t just sail the sea — we leave a positive mark on it. Here’s how we actively contribute to the blue economy:
🌱 Education and training for local youth
We support the training of new generations in sea-related activities: sailing, sustainable fishing, ecological awareness, nautical maintenance, and responsible tourism. We believe that planting knowledge today ensures guardians of the sea tomorrow.
🌊 Responsible and sustainable tourism
Our activities are designed to enjoy the sea without harming it: we avoid the use of plastics, respect marine wildlife, and promote environmental awareness among our passengers. Every tour is an opportunity to educate and connect with nature.
⚓ Commitment to the community and environment
We collaborate with local projects, support small suppliers, and always aim for our economic activity to have a positive impact on the area. Our crew not only sails — they inspire and embody the soul of the sea.
🌀 Conscious footprint in everything we do
From maintaining our boats with eco-friendly materials, to waste management and designing educational experiences on board, we take care of every detail. We want every customer to take home not just a memory, but a new way of seeing the sea.
We are aligned with sustainability
Our onboard water is AquaNea — plastic-free and served in easily recyclable aluminum cans. We also contribute to the regeneration of corals and Posidonia seagrass in the Mediterranean.
If there is leftover food, we pack it in containers for customers to take home. If they choose not to, we donate it to local NGOs. We also offer a free app, OLIO, to help donate surplus food.
Our merchandise is sustainable, made with thread produced from plastic collected from the sea — SEAQUAL.
This is one of the goals of the Circular Economy for 2030, and part of our adaptation to the new zero-waste law, aimed at reducing food waste in households, hospitality, and the restaurant industry.
We dedicate 3% of our work to these efforts.
We practice eco-conscious nautical activity, especially in how we manage our boat operations. We align ourselves with the Biosphere Certification held by our Barcelona Nautical Club.
We also encourage our sponsors and suppliers to align with sustainability principles.

Through our Almar Cancer Trust Association, each journey is an opportunity to teach about the care of marine ecosystems, the value of natural resources, and how — through respect and innovation — we can build a more just and responsible future.
100% Recyclable and Circular Packaging
For years, bottles have been waste.
Every minute, over 1 million plastic bottles are opened around the world.
Many of them end up floating in our oceans or breaking down into microplastics.
We choose aluminum, an infinitely recyclable metal, so that each of our cans can become another can — over and over again.
What’s more, we’ve decided that each container should leave a positive impact on the planet. And if you take a photo with it, you’ll leave your mark too — we’ll plant a coral in your name.
Aluminum is more efficient to transport, store, and recycle.
Corals are the ocean’s source of life, and more than 25% of marine creatures depend on them.
At Gymir & Charters, together with AguaNea, we want to support this cause by planting corals through the consumption of AguaNea on our nautical journeys.
